Are you a teacher? Do you
want to improve your English language skills and learn new
teaching techniques and technologies? If so, our 4-week summer
training program will:
- Improve your English language competency
- Introduce you to the latest ESL teaching methods and strategies
- Teach you how to integrate computers and the Internet
in your EFL class
- Give you the opportunity to experience Canadian society
and culture
Admission Requirements
- Minimum TOEFL score of 537 (paper-based. 203 (computer
based), or 75 (Internet-based) or equivalent

Courses Offered
Course Descriptions
Module 1: English-Language Competency for EFL Teachers
Participants will improve their English
pronunciation and fluency, increase reading and writing competencies,
and communicate with more confidence and effectiveness in
a variety of situations
Module 2: EFL Teaching
Methods and Strategies
Participants will learn effective techniques
for teaching language through communicative language teaching
approaches. Topics include:
- Teaching/learning styles
- Language acquisition
- Teaching process
- Skills integration
- Teaching listening and speaking
- Teaching grammar and phonology
- Lesson planning
- Teaching reading and writing communicatively
- Addressing culture
- Testing and evaluation
- Classroom management
- Professional development
- Classroom observation and practice
Module 3: Use of Computers and Internet in EFL Classroom
The use of technology in the classroom including
instructional design, multi-media development, editing and
web development, Internet, email, and blogs in second language
instruction will be covered.
Module 4: Canadian Society and Culture
Cultural diversity and the cultural rules
that govern communication, expectations, and assumptions will
be examined. Participants will learn to recognize and interpret
culture and cross-cultural interactions. Students will develop
their own cultural knowledge, awareness, and competence through
discussions, simulations, interactive lectures, and film,
in particular with reference to North American society and
culture.
