Program Overview
The Administrative Professional program equips you with the skills and knowledge to become an office professional in today's business environment. During the certificate year, you will learn essential office skills such as business office procedures, software applications, and business communication. The diploma year will provide advanced skills for the business world and an opportunity to gain specialized skills in three areas: bookkeeping, project management, or the medical field.
Career Potential
Graduates of the certificate year find employment in a variety of private and public sector environments. They can work as data entry clerks, receptionists, administrative assistants, executive assistants, bookkeepers, project assistants, or medical office assistants.
Transferability
Students who have completed the College's Administrative Professional certificate or an equivalent program from another post-secondary institution will be eligible to apply to the diploma program. Please contact the program coordinator for details.
Course work completed at another post-secondary institution may be equivalent to course work at NorQuest College. To be considered for transfer credit, a formal assessment must be made. Request forms may be obtained from the Office of the Registrar.
Admission Requirements (2011-2012)
- 60% in English Language Arts 30-1 or 65% English Language Arts 30-2
- 50% in Pure Mathematics 20 or 50% in Applied Mathematics 30
- Keyboarding speed of 25 wpm net

Diploma Program Requirement
Successful completion of a one-year certificate in Office Administration, Administrative Professional, or a related program from a community college or a technical institute is a requirement for entering the diploma program.
English Language Proficiency
You must provide proof of English language proficiency (ELP) prior to admission if English is your second language. ELP must have been completed within the two years prior to application to the program. Acceptable evidence of ELP may be one of the following:
- CLBA 7
- TOEFL Internet-based test score 71 (overall score)
- IELTS Academic 6.0
- CAEL score over 60
Note: Meeting the English language proficiency requirement does NOT exempt the applicant from meeting the English academic course work required for admission to this program.

Progression
Students must attain a pass grade in each course to progress through the program. To qualify for graduation, students must pass all courses and maintain an overall GPA of 2.0.
Credential
After successfully completing the one-year program, graduates will be awarded a NorQuest Administrative Professional certificate.
