Although I had always wanted to know how to read and speak properly, I never attended school in my home country of Liberia. When I came to Canada as a widow with two daughters, I dreamed about going to school. I enrolled in the Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada program at NorQuest College to learn English.
At first, I wanted to quit every day because it was so hard for me. My teachers, however, were very encouraging and helpful. One day, my teacher told me I could learn and succeed. After that, I started to study and understand things. I was proud of myself.
I thank God I came to Canada and had the chance to go to school. NorQuest has improved my life. I encourage others to come here and learn as well. Canada is my country now. I hope to get a good job working with sick people. |
