Managing Intercultural Conflict: New Tools for Shifting Times
with Michelle LeBaron

Working with diverse groups is complex, and requires cultural fluency and excellent facility with conflict. This workshop will assist participants to deepen their repertoire of skills for working with people from many different backgrounds. It will provide opportunities for case-based analysis, experiential learning and skills practice.

Participants will:

  • deepen understandings of how cultural dynamics affect conflict resolution processes
  • improve cultural fluency to facilitate work with people from diverse backgrounds and orientations
  • learn capacities and skills for intercultural conflict resolution

 

Workshop Presenter

Michelle LeBaron Profile:
Creativity, culture and collaboration are themes that run through Michelle LeBaron’s work. She is an internationally renowned scholar/practitioner, currently serving as a professor of law and Director of Dispute Resolution at UBC. Michelle has done seminal work in many areas of conflict resolution including intercultural, international, family and commercial. Her books include Bridging Cultural Conflicts: A New Approach for a Changing World and Conflict Across Cultures: A Unique Experience of Bridging Differences, the products of collaboration among five authors from four continents. Her current research explores the arts and contemplative practices as vital resources for transforming cross-cultural conflicts.
