What Our Students Say

We asked NorQuest students about their experiences in the Interdisciplinary Simulation Centre, and this is what they told us. Just think about the learning opportunities our rural students will have when STAN in a Van comes to them!

• It definitely brought into perspective how difficult situations may arise and how we need to deal with them as quickly and efficiently as possible.
• I believe I could have done better communicating with the elderly lady. I need to be more open with the clients and not be shy. I know with a little more experience I will do a great job connecting.
• Very realistic scenarios, high stress, definitely something I will use and reflect back on during my work term.
• My time with Stan was valuable. It was the first time I had to think critically about responding to a patient and family.
• It was a valuable sample of issues and experiences that we will encounter out on the job. It was neat to "see yourself" as a patient does.
• I enjoyed the experience and look forward to working in the sim lab again. Having a safe place to learn is reassuring.
• I think this was a good learning experience because I got to talk to a patient for the first time and see how it feels rather than watch a video of someone else talking to a patient.
• It was a great learning experience for me to evaluate myself and clearly identify areas that I need to work on. It was really good to practice talking to a patient and be able to apply what I learned.
• At one point, I totally forgot it was even a mannequin. I have never been in a situation like that, but feel like I could learn from this and am happy we got to practice. I look forward to doing it again.
• Gave me an excellent idea of what clients and family members will be like.
