Program Overview
If you are currently employed as a nursing attendant or personal support worker, and believe you have the skills and knowledge to meet the standards for a Health Care Aide (HCA) Certificate, this is an excellent program for you.
NorQuest’s HCA PLAR program will evaluate your education and experience and give you credit for skills and knowledge acquired through:
- Work experience
- Formal education
- Non-formal education
- Self-studies
- Volunteer activities
Delivery Method
Self-paced study – up to six months to complete
Application Requirements
- Currently employed in the health care field a minimum of six months, full-time work
- Motivated to study on your own and complete the challenge exams
- Outdated or unrecognized Health Care Aide certification
Process
- Call and request PLAR package
- Send in completed application package
- Complete a self-assessment audit (to be set up once application package is received)
- Complete an English comprehension audit (to be set up once application is received)
- Provide proof of employment letter
- Provide statement of understanding form
Instructor will assess above information and provide a letter of recommendation. If not appropriate for PLAR, instructor will provide you with options for the individual to attain the HCA Certificate.
If accepted, follow the steps below:
- Register in program
- Complete theory exam
- Demonstrate skills (must be done at NorQuest College)
- Complete final exam
*Students must attain a pass grade in each course to progress through the program. Students must pass all courses to qualify for the certificate.
Upon successful completion you will receive
- Certificate
- Official transcript
- Health Care Aide pin
